Join one of the most rewarding organisation in the UK. Most people do not like spending time in hospital, however our volunteers are rare exceptions to this rule. Volunteering as a request collector for Kingston hospital radio is a fun and rewarding, most importantly an enjoyable way to spend some of your time. The role takes over just a few hours on a weekday evening or during the weekend providing a worthwhile service to others. Please note you must be over the age of 18 and you will have a 3 months probation period after which if successful you will become a full member of the station. Anybody who has spent time in the hospital will know all too well how slowly the time passes and how isolating it can be. This is why we have introduced our own Radio Station to keep our patients entertained. If you would like to join us, please download the application form.

Station Member Keith Chevalier recalls life at the station in the 1980s. "Access to the top floor was via a prehistoric lift where you had to haul the shutter across before it would move. I also remember some arduous slogs up a spiral staircase when some goon had forgotten to shut the door properly"

"Our priceless collection of cylinders, and some more modern stuff called vinyl, was housed on a shelving miracle loosely attached to  an even more collapsible wall, where heavy rain would always find sanctuary. And those cockroaches... I tell you, when you were up there on your own and one of those monsters came out, you played anything so long as it kept them happy!"

As a request collector you will be a friendly face on the wards chatting to the patients and showing a laugh and a joke with them, whilst getting them involved in competitions and helping brighten their day with some of the favourite pieces of music. As well as request collecting, you can get involved in all aspects of the station such as helping out on air and lending a hand at out outside broadcasts and fundraising events.

Kingston hospital radio also organises occasion social events, a great excuses to let your hair down and get to know the rest of the team. So if you have a few hours to spare each week why not put it to good use by volunteering for us you can down load the form from this website.
